EnergyPoint Research’s customer satisfaction ratings are unbiased and aggregated opinions of the marketplace. They are differentiated tools for evaluating the quality and performance of energy industry suppliers.

Our ratings are not intended to be a prognosis or recommendation (that’s not our role).  Rather, they are intended to measure the perceived performance and quality of suppliers. This includes tracking trends over time.

Each of the major segment winners in EnergyPoint Research’s 2013 survey garnered high praise from oilfield customers for their long-standing commitment to quality, performance and customer satisfaction. The annual Oilfield Products & Services Customer Satisfaction Survey, conducted for the last decade, tracks the performance of oilfield suppliers in meeting the needs of the industry. The 2013 results, announced last week, reaffirm three past winners and introduce one new segment leader.

Ensco, Vallourec, Newpark Resources and Helmerich & Payne took top honors in the survey’s four main segments. The results were based on in-depth evaluations from thousands of qualified professionals at domestic and international customers of oilfield suppliers. The Low-down on Sizing Up Suppliers

Big vs. Small Suppliers

Malcolm Gladwell’s book David and Goliath offers interesting perspective on how those possessing seemingly little in the way of resources can successfully take on more established players using their size and ingenuity to their advantage.

The promise of the little guy is certainly germane to the oil and gas industry. If a company or individual has an idea they believe has merit, there’s little to keep them from pursuing their idea in the oilfield. And if their products or services are good enough, customers will eventually beat a path to their door. Continue reading “The Low-down on Sizing Up Suppliers”

The Emotive Power of Rankings

Emotive Power

In the 1970s, J.D. Power began publishing his ratings and rankings of initial quality as reported by new car buyers. The publishing of these results, which were based on comprehensive independent surveys designed and conducted by his firm, were notable for two reasons.

First, he published the entire set of rankings (i.e., top to bottom, first to last). This was not a common practice in those days, and is still relatively rare today. Second, the rankings consistently showed that U.S. auto manufacturers (General Motors, Ford, Chrysler and American Motors) were putting out products that were markedly inferior in terms of quality and customer satisfaction to those of their foreign counterparts, particularly the Japanese. North American Land Driller Ratings Fall

North American Land Driller Ratings Fall (FI). v. 1.00

Demand for North American (NAM) land-drilling services has leveled off for the time being. A warm first half of winter and expectations for shoulder-month reductions in gas demand have given many producers pause regarding their drilling programs.

We believe a modest slowdown in activity could prove a blessing in disguise for many drillers, who could use the opportunity to regroup after a frenzied couple of years that, despite record earnings, have cost them in terms of customer satisfaction.
