Top-rated Oil & Gas Industry Suppliers

With so much at stake in today’s oil and gas industry, customers are looking for both measured authenticity and established competence in their oilfield suppliers. The ability of the current group of top-rated suppliers to perform so consistently well in EnergyPoint’s customer satisfaction surveys is a testament to their commitment to, and talent for, providing a superlative customer experience.

Three of the recently finalized 2012 survey’s four main segment leaders are repeat winners — Helmerich & Payne in onshore drilling, Derrick Equipment in oilfield products, and Ensco in offshore drilling. Newpark Resources captured the top overall ranking in the oilfield services segment for the first time.

Driven by strong marks for performance & reliability, Helmerich & Payne rated first in 11 total land-drilling categories and regions, including job quality and shale-oriented wells. The company’s ratings continue to benefit from customer satisfaction with both its assets and operations. Precision Drilling was once again runner up in the land drilling segment.

Ensco captured the top overall rating in the offshore drilling segment. The company rated first in 10 measurements, including technology and in international regions. Other contract drillers rating first in at least one category or region include Atwood Oceanics, Diamond Offshore, Rowan Drilling and Transocean.

Newpark Resources rated first overall in the oilfield services segment. The drilling fluids service provider posted top scores in 10 service categories and regions. Other suppliers rating first in at least one service-segment category or region include Baker Hughes, Basic Energy Services, Core Laboratories, Frank’s, Halliburton, Schlumberger, Scientific Drilling, Tetra Technologies and Weatherford International.

Finally, solids-control equipment manufacturer Derrick Equipment again ranked first overall among suppliers of oilfield products. Others ranking first in various product categories include Baker Hughes, Cameron International, Caterpillar, Dril-quip, Forum Energy Technologies, Gardner Denver, GE Oil & Gas, Halliburton, Newpark Resources, Oceaneering, Oil States International, Pason Systems, Sumitomo Metals, TAM International, Tesco Corporation, V&M Tubes and Weatherford International.

The relationship between oilfield customers and their suppliers has evolved over the years, but the rewards for meeting and exceeding customer expectations remain resilient. Our latest analysis shows that publicly traded suppliers that consistently rank in the top half of our independent surveys have, on average, seen their stock prices appreciate 460% since 2004. Companies consistently ranking in the bottom half of the same surveys over the same period have seen a return of only 185%.
